Tri-City Central, situated at the core of Coquitlam's city centre, represents a groundbreaking blend of residential and commercial design. The north site offers an array of mixed-use buildings including two condo towers, a 22-storey hotel/office complex, and a rental tower complete with a childcare facility.
The architecture of the north project site showcases innovation through features like a dynamic retail High Street and a pedestrian passage (the Passage). The Passage connects to a new multimodal overpass bridge, extending westward to major transit hubs. Combined with plazas and commercial podiums, the design of this area promotes both aesthetic and functional urban living. These elements, coupled with over 100,000 square feet of commercial space and a pedestrian-friendly design, forge an unprecedented Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model.
Five unique phases on the south project site create a seamless connection between residential and communal spaces, all designed to function independently. The completion of the final phase will introduce a city-owned park, adding a vital green space to Coquitlam's urban heart. This aspect emphasizes the community's commitment to a complete, balanced, and sustainable living environment.
My involvement as part of the architectural team and as computational design lead during the LOE and Rezoning phases was instrumental in crafting Tri-City Central. Focusing on both the commercial zones and residential towers, I employed computational design optimization strategies to align the project's goals with environmental considerations. My hands-on approach in designing and strategizing ensured that commercial and residential areas were aesthetically pleasing and efficient, contributing to a cohesive community that is emblematic of modern urban living.
