As part of its commitment to revitalizing Calgary's urban core, the MNP Community & Sport Centre announces the Leisure Expansion Aquatics Project (LEAP). This initiative, set against the backdrop of the Centre’s 40-year legacy, aims to enhance aquatic facilities and foster a healthier, more connected community in the heart of Calgary.
LEAP represents a significant development, supported by a total investment of $85 million, with contributions from The City of Calgary, the Province of Alberta, and the Lindsay Park Sports Society. This project is designed to expand and modernize the Centre’s facilities, focusing on community engagement and accessibility. The project encompasses the renovation and expansion within the existing 'tent' structure and new areas in the south and west.
The expansion includes constructing new aquatic features such as a lazy river, hot tub, water slides, a tot pool, and a dedicated viewing area for parents. Additionally, the project will enhance the Centre’s main entrance and add new social spaces, food & beverage outlets, and universal locker rooms. Upgrades to the existing facilities will also be implemented, improving the competition pool, dive tank, teach pool, locker rooms, and bleacher seating.
LEAP uses energy-efficient technologies and sustainable building practices to minimize environmental impact. The project aims to set a benchmark for future community-centred developments in Calgary. This expansion is not just about building new facilities; it's about building healthier futures for Calgary residents. LEAP aims to enrich the lives of those in the downtown core and surrounding areas by providing enhanced recreational options and engaging community spaces.
